FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) About CBD
What is CBD?
CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is just one of many different molecules known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. CBD has many beneficial properties and is commonly used to promote overall wellness.
What is CBD oil?
CBD oil is a natural oil which is extracted from the flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. It is used by people all over the world for a variety of purposes.
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are active compounds produced by all cannabis plants. They account for most of the benefits of cannabis. Cannabinoids found in plants are technically called phytocannabinoids, while cannabinoids produced by the human body are called endocannabinoids. Cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which promotes homeostasis.
How does CBD work?
CBD’s effects are a result of its interaction with the endocannabinoid system. CBD impacts the ECS indirectly, most often through activation of outside receptors and interaction with enzymes.
What is hemp seed oil?
Hemp seed oil is distinct from CBD oil. While CBD is produced by extracting the essential oils from the cannabis plant’s flowers, hemp seed oil is produced by pressing the plant’s seeds. Hemp oil is similar to other seed oils such as corn oil and sesame oil. Hemp oil does not contain cannabinoids such as CBD.
What is the difference between CBD and hemp?
Hemp is a family of cannabis strains which are grown for food and fibers. CBD is a molecular compound found in the plant’s extracts.
What is the difference between CBD oil and hemp seed oil?
CBD oil is an essential oil extracted from the cannabis plant’s flowers. It contains beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes. Hemp seed oil, on the other hand, is similar to other seed oils such as corn oil or sesame seed oil and is produced by pressing the plant’s seeds. Hemp oil does not contain CBD or terpenes.
Is your product safe?
There are no known incidences of illness caused by consumption of CBD oil. Also, all Crested River products undergo testing to guarantee they are free of any potential contaminants.
What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?
Hemp and marijuana are both types of cannabis. Marijuana contains a cannabinoid known as THC. To be considered hemp, the THC content must be less than 0.3%, far less than any amount to get you “high”. To add, CBD offsets the psychoactive effects of THC.
What is CBD used for?
Many people use CBD to promote a state known as homeostasis, the body’s natural tendency to maintain a healthy balance in all its systems. Cannabinoids are an integral part of the human body’s ability to regulate and balance a wide variety of physiological systems. CBD is also used by some for specific purposes such as supporting a good night’s rest or maintaining well-functioning joints.
Are there traces of THC in CBD oil?
Raw hemp extract may contain traces of THC. By law, anything under 0.3% THC is legal and considered hemp.
Can I see your lab reports?
Yes, our lab reports for each batch is posted on our website.
Why should I choose CBD over medical cannabis?
Medical cannabis is another term for medical marijuana. Marijuana contains THC, which is a cannabinoid that causes a high. CBD is not psychotropic, meaning that it does not cause a high. It can be used while working, driving or undertaking any other activities even exercising.
What does broad spectrum mean?
The term broad spectrum refers to CBD oil products that contain a combination of cannabinoids, terpenes and other beneficial compounds found in hemp. While many CBD oil products are made using CBD isolate, Crested River broad spectrum oils maintain concentrations of the beneficial compounds that are found in the original hemp plant..
Will I feel any effects from using CBD products?
Some of the effects reported by CBD oil users include improved mood, restful sleep, increased attention and focus and others. However, organic compounds such as CBD can produce different effects in different people. Your results may vary.
Can I overdose on CBD?
There is no record of anyone ever overdosing on CBD. CBD is completely non-toxic.
What are the benefits of taking broad spectrum CBD products?
The benefits of broad spectrum products are usually greater than the benefits provided by others, such as those containing just CBD isolate. This is due to what’s known as the entourage effect. The entourage effect occurs when compounds in the hemp plant, including cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids, work together to produce even greater effects than just CBD alone. All Crested River products contain broad spectrum CBD oil. However, organic compounds such as CBD can produce different effects in different people. Your results may vary.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are a class of volatile hydrocarbon compounds produced in the flower clusters of the cannabis plant. Terpenes are what give cannabis its distinct aromas and have been utilized by humans for millennia in aromatherapy. Terpenes are recognized as safe for human consumption by the Food and Drug Association and are used in a wide variety of food and cosmetic products.
What is a CBD tincture?
A CBD tincture is a preparation made from CBD extract. It is used orally (swallowed) and can also be used in cooking or baking. Our tinctures do not contain alcohol, although many traditional tinctures do.
Is it possible to take too much CBD?
CBD is non-toxic. We have never heard of anyone overdosing on CBD. However, extremely large servings of CBD may cause drowsiness.
What is the ideal serving size?
The ideal serving size of CBD for each person depends on a wide range of variables. It also depends on the product. Servings of 5 to 50 milligrams per day are commonly reported for health maintenance and minor issues.
How often can I take CBD?
CBD can be taken multiple times each day, or at particular times of day, depending on the reason it is being used.
What kind of testing/analysis is performed on your products?
All Crested River products go through testing by third-party labs to assure purity and accurate concentrations of cannabinoids.
Do you test for potency, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals and residual solvents?
Yes. All Crested River products go through a rigorous series of tests by third-party labs to assure purity and concentrations of cannabinoids.
Will CBD get me high?
No. Unlike marijuana and THC, CBD is non-psychotropic and does not cause a high.
Will I need a marijuana card or doctor’s prescription to use CBD products?
No. CBD is not a drug. You will not be required to produce a medical marijuana card in order to purchase CBD online. However, some states have laws allowing doctors to recommend CBD to patients for particular conditions.
Does CBD have a shelf life?
CBD itself does not have an expiration date. However, CBD oil products can degrade and should be consumed within a certain period of time. They should be stored in airtight contains either in the refrigerator or in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Please refer to the product expiration dates for more information.
How should I store CBD products? Do I need to refrigerate?
We highly recommend either refrigerating CBD products or storing them in a cool place. Always keep CBD products in airtight containers and store them away from direct sunlight and heat, which can degrade certain compounds in CBD oil.
Will CBD help me if I’m healthy?
Because of its ability to support the body’s effort to maintain homeostasis, CBD is often used by those who have no specific concerns.
Does CBD interact with other medications?
Much more research needs to be done in this area. If you are taking prescription medications, consult with a qualified medical professional.
How long will it take to receive benefits from taking CBD oil?
In some cases, such as when using a vaporizer or sublingual tincture, users often report almost immediate results. However, most of the effects of CBD are subtle and take some time to be detectable — usually half an hour or more. Personal results will vary.
Where is your hemp grown?
The hemp used in our products is grown in Minnesota exclusivly.
Can I give my pet CBD?
Yes, high-quality CBD is safe for pets. Most customers use our Dog Treats for dogs and our plain pet tinctures for other pets. We do recommend that you consult with a veterinarian who is familiar with your pet and knowledgeable in the use of CBD oil in pet health.
What is the endocannabinoid system?
The human endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is a system of neurotransmitters and cell membrane receptors. Neurotransmitters such as endocannabinoids are produced by the central nervous system and interact with cannabinoid receptors on cell membranes to adjust physiological processes at a cellular level.
What is the entourage effect?
CBD oil, such as that used in Crested River products, contains a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes as well as other beneficial compounds. Each of the compounds has particular effects on the human body. Because terpenes can affect how the body responds to cannabinoids, the combined effect is often greater than the sum of the individual effects. The overall effect produced is known as the entourage effect. Non-broad or full spectrum products do not have the benefit of the entourage effect and are therefore not recommended.
